Our Insights on the Mobile Ecosystem

iPod touch users younger than iPhone users

June 22nd, 2009  |  No Comments

We regularly conduct survey research on our network to help determine the audience composition of our publishers.  In partnership with comScore, we recently released data comparing the demographic and behavioral characteristics of iPhone and the iPod touch users.

The main finding is that iPod touch users are significantly younger than iPhone users.  26% of iPhone users are under 24, compared to 69% of iPod touch users.  Both devices are over 70% male and have a similar ethnic distribution.

In the survey we also asked users about the their usage of mobile web compared to other types of media.  4 in 10 said they used their Apple mobile device to access the Internet more often than they did on their computers.  It is yet more evidence of the behavioral shift mobile is driving in the consumption of the Internet.
