Welcome to the new Metrics blog. This blog replaces our old page www.admob.com/metrics and is now the place to find and download our monthly reports.
For those new to our Mobile Metrics Report, I thought I would highlight why we do it, what it is, and how to interpret the results. The AdMob Mobile Metrics Report is based on the ad requests we receive from our network of more than 6,000 mobile Web sites and 1,000 iPhone and Android applications. It provides a measure of mobile data usage and does not represent the number of handsets in the market.
I’ve often had people ask me about bias in the report, saying that AdMob is an ad network and our data is based on the sites we show ads on. Yes, that’s true, and we are the first to admit it. The thousands of big, small, and international Web sites and applications in our network give us enough scale and reach that we believe trends we see are indicative of general trends in the ecosystem. From time to time we add our opinions and make estimations on this blog, but we do our best to keep the report a clean reflection of the data.
We share our data with the world to use and interpret. What you will not see in our report: sales materials. We will sometimes mention an AdMob specific product to the extent it has an impact on our results and do footnotes when relevant. The data in the report is the data we see in our network each month.
Over the past several months, other mobile firms (ad networks, analytics providers, etc) have started releasing reports and sharing data. We applaud their efforts and think the ecosystem is in a better place for it. As long as everyone is open and transparent about data sources, it is great for those making decisions get data from the different perspectives.
